The Management
Brian Somers
Company Director/Sales & Service Engineer
Brian began his career as a plant maintenance technician before becoming a field service engineer with MGE. While in MGE he met his business partner Irvine and together they established Backup Power Solutions in 2007.
Brian holds a unique position having worked in the UPS industry since the early stages of its formation over 25 years ago. He has an in-depth working knowledge of the industry and a passion for electronics.
Brian is dedicated to providing reliable and cost effective solutions to client’s backup power needs. An aim which is aided by the relationships he has established with market leaders in over two decades working in the industry.
Brian is the friendly face of the sales department in Backup Power Solutions and is the first point of contact for clients. He takes a personal approach to business and can often be found working on site side by side with our field service engineers.
Irvine Finlay
Company Director/Sales & Service Engineer
After leaving school Irvine obtained a position with Kane Engineering & Switch Gear, this was his introduction to the electrical industry. Irvine excelled in the manufacture and assembly of switch gear and electrical panels. He went on to accept the position of Field Service Engineer with MGE where he met Brian Somers and subsequently established Backup Power Solutions in 2007.
At Backup Power Solutions Irvine prides himself on being on a first name basis with his clients. Irvine looks after his clients from responding to their initial enquiries straight through to commissioning and after sales service. Irvine is a tech savvy innovator and enjoys staying abreast of the most cutting edge technology. Through this passion for innovation and progression Irvine ensures that his clients are provided with the most up-to-date technology from market leaders.
Irvine takes a modern approach to management in the company demanding the achievement of precision and perfection through the systematic and scientific analysis of client’s needs.
Operations
Claudia Morrin
Operations Manager
Claudia has a background in law achieving both a BA in Law and an LLB in Irish Law. Claudia has lectured Law for ten years as an associate lecturer specialising in Administration Law, Constitutional Law and Business & Company Law.
Claudia Joined BPS in 2013 moving from Office Administrator and Office Manager to her current position of Operations Manager.
As Operations Manager Claudia is responsible for the day to day operations of the company. Merging the operations of both our Ireland & Northern Ireland offices. She oversees all aspects of administration, finances and credit control within the organisation. In addition to this Claudia is responsible for our after sales service support contracts along with our engineers schedule, ensuring that everyone is kept busy and our clients taken care of.
Claudia manages Health & Safety procedures within the company. In this capacity she returned to education part-time and was awarded a Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health from IT Sligo in 2020. As quality manager she is responsible for ensuring we maintain our ISO Quality certification.
The Engineers
Tadhg O’Connor
Field Service Engineer
Tadhg joined BPS in 2022. He comes to the team highly recommended and with a wealth of knowledge. He began his apprenticeship with Donie Harney Electrical before moving to King & Moffatt. During his apprenticeship Tadhg worked on both domestic and commercial projects in Ireland & Portugal. He graduated with merits in 2016.
Tadhg is experienced in electrical fault finding, battery & UPS maintenance. He works on site daily with clients all over Ireland from small businesses to leading manufacturers & service providers in Datacentres and Hospitals.
Fionn Kirwan
Field Service Engineer
Fionn began his career with an electrical apprenticeship with Donal Hannon Electrical Ltd. and qualified with a distinction in 2023. Fionn is experienced in domestic, pharmaceutical & industrial settings.
Kind, dependable, trustworthy and thorough, Fionn has proved to be a fantastic addition to the BPS team. He is a multitalented engineer who works on installs, repairs & maintenances. His work takes him from Belfast to Cork and Galway to Dublin, looking after BPS clients throughout Ireland.
Fionn is also an avid sports fan and plays football with The Rock GAA club.
Finbarr O’Meara
Field Service Engineer
Finbarr began his career as a maintenance technician in Saturn CD Rom before working for a time as a Field Service Engineer in Munich, Germany. Upon returning from Germany he accepted the position of Technical Officer in one of Irelands leading Institutes of Technology.
Having worked for over twenty years in the electrical industry, Finbarr decided to upskill and in 2006 he qualified from Dublin Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
As a trusted electrical engineer, Finbarr helps look after sales service visits to our leading contracted clients.
The Technicians
Evaldas Narbutas
Field Service Technician
This multilingual team member can speak three languages, English, Lithuanian & Russian.
At the start of his multifaceted career, Evaldas began working as a Data Technician Apprentice. Having completed his apprenticeship he continued his studies and transferred to a new field of expertise, graduating with a Bachelors Diploma in Logistic Engineering.
Seeking a change, Evaldas moved to Ireland from Lithuania in 2005. He immediately accepted a position working as a Facilities Assistant with UTC (formerly GE). During his eight years working with this company Evaldas was promoted to the position of Facilities & Maintenance Technician. His responsibilities included fault finding on mechanical and pneumatic systems.
In 2014 Evaldas began working as an Electricians mate in this capacity he has worked on sites managed by Schneider, Mercury & Kirby Groups and it is in this role that he came to the attention of the management of Backup Power Solutions. He has excelled in the areas of battery builds, battery monitoring installations and DC cabling.

Apprentice Electricians
Kyle Stacey
Apprentice Electrician
Kyle joined BPS as a general operative after completing his Leaving Certificate in 2021. He is the youngest member of the BPS team.
A keen sportsman Kyle plays rugby and soccer. He has brought this team spirit and commitment with him to BPS and has proved most popular with all staff and clients alike. Kyle quickly excelled in all tasks allocated to him and has since began an electrical apprenticeship with BPS.
Kyle specialises in battery installation.
